Tennis Elbow Brace – Counter-Force for Tennis Elbow

What is a tennis elbow brace?  The tennis elbow brace is a type of elbow support that can help prevent tennis elbow disorder, a common injury among tennis players.   Technically speaking, tennis elbow brace is a lateral counter-force bracing, that therapists believe reduces the magnitude of muscle contraction.  Reducing the quantity of force resting on the tendons also reduces the quantity trauma in this area of the muscular attachment.

Since the sport of tennis, generally uses the arm as the main active body part, specifically the elbows because this is where extreme amounts of force to the muscles are heavily directed during swinging and hitting of the ball, a common injury or disorder known as tennis elbow has troubled most of the people playing the sport.  A tennis elbow patient suffers pain on the top or outer part of the elbow and is triggered during grasping activities which may go with a feeling of weakness on the arm. Sometimes the injury can be recurring, and so preventive measures or aid is needed to avoid the injury. One of these aids is the use of a tennis elbow brace.

A lateral counter force brace (tennis elbow brace) is an inelastic cuff that is wrapped around the forearm and takes pressure off the muscle attachments. The braced is placed against the forearm flexors (muscles that pull the top of the hand back towards the elbow) for lateral epicondylitis. Some tennis elbow brace have additional pads that can be placed over the muscles that are attached directly to the epicondylitis.  The tennis elbow brace limits the amount of muscle expansion as it contracts, which reduces the amount of force produced, thus preventing the muscles on this area from tearing.  It is suggested to gradually use less and less of the brace while progressing through rehabilitation and should not be dependent on the counter force brace.

A lot of companies have developed different types of tennis elbow braces, they come in various designs and materials, but they basically serve the same purpose, to prevent and aid tennis elbow disorder.  Some designs of these braces are advanced and have been added other features, like a heat retainer that helps retain the heat produced by the body hence blood circulation is improved and therefore healing is faster.  These products of tennis elbow brace produced by different companies have different prices depending on brands and features, which better or improve treatment of tennis elbow.
