A cat whisper is someone who has a natural
and unique ability to relate to cats, particularly injured or
abused kitties. Cats will often adopt cat whisperers,
showing up on the person's doorstep and moving in at the first
chance.
Sometimes, when a family moves, their cat
decides not to go with them. Occasionally, the pet is
abandoned, or may have become lost while one vacation with the
family. Sometimes the cat may just decide that he
likes someone else’s home better and decide to move there.
Most cat whisperers
have no formal training. They just seem to
understand the way
a cat thinks and know how to work with the cat to achieve the
results they want. Even though many think of a cat whisperer as
a cat therapist, it is usually not by virtue of formal training.
Cats who have been abused or mistreated will sometimes only
respond to a cat whisperer. Others may have
tried to help the cat but were unable because the cat was afraid
of them.
In most cases, abused, mistreated, and
abandoned cats end up in a pound. This is tragic, as many of them were once loved pets.
Cats who have been treated unfairly sometimes
refuse to trust
anyone. They are confused, in pain, and not
sure what they should do. Physically abused cats are
easily identified, but emotionally damaged cats may appear to be in perfect health. Emotionally
abused cats can be much harder to work with.
Cat whisperers seem to be able to communicate with
physically and emotionally abused cats. Cats who won't
trust others may choose a cat whisperer to reside with.
Although most people have never heard of cat
whisperers, cats seem to instinctively find them. A cat whisperer
knows it takes time to heal a cat that has been
abused or neglected.
