Cats work on their own agenda.
Sometimes they seem to not pay much attention to their owner – provided they have clean
litter, food, and water. Cats can behave in odd manners, which can confuse their owners and make it hard to determine what the cat wants.
A common behavior that most cats do is rub their heads
on any type of object that will allow them to do it. You
may have seen your cat do this, using table
legs, TV stands, or even people.
You may notice your cat does this more
when you have other people over who own animals. This is a
sign that the cat is "marking" the person. A cat has
special glands near his whiskers that leave his scent on things
he rubs his head against.
Your cat is trying to help the visitor belong by marking them
with a familiar scent. He may do this with new items as
well.
Unfortunately, this is one of the most common ways to exacerbate pet allergies. When someone
washes off the scent, the cat may go back and attempt to do it
again. This might make it may appear that the cat has targeted those with
allergies.
Indoor cats spend
quite a bit of time lying near windows. Sometimes, your cat
may make strange noises or weird movements. He is likely acting out his
hunting instincts. When your cat sees another cat or
creature outside
moving about, he will instinctually go into hunting mode.
As most already know, cats love to play. They will pounce on things on
occasion, and love to chase string around the room. They
also enjoy small wadded up crinkly objects, although you need to
make sure they cannot choke on the pieces if they shred the
item.
Cats behave in strange ways, although they usually have a reason for doing
so. If you can
understand why your cat behaves like he does, you’ll have no
problems keeping him healthy and happy. You can learn a
lot about your cat simply by paying attention to his behavior.
