There are a lot of experts
who say that cats are strictly independent animals. These
same experts state that cats chose to associate with humans as a
survival strategy. Whether this is true or not, it is
certain that cats and humans now have a relationship with each
other.
Anyone who has owned a cat will tell you that cats are capable
of bonding with people. They can be very particular.
Normally, a cat will choose someone in the home as his special
companion.
You will know when a cat
wants to bond with you. He will hop on your lap or snuggle
up to you, and may purr while doing so. Purring is a
strong sign of affection from a cat, especially when they are
looking to bond.
No one really knows why cats choose a particular person to bond
with. One thing to keep in mind is that all cats have
distinct personalities, and may well bond with the person who
best matches their particular personality traits.
Some researchers have taken this subject into the realm of the
psychic. They say that cats bond with someone due to a
“psychic aura” that is compatible with both the person and the
cat.
If a cat feels that
someone is giving them a bad vibe, they may simply ignore that
person. This may be true for some cats, but for others it
is far from the truth.
Although there are a lot of theories and speculation, no one
really knows why cats bond with people. It may have
originated with the rodent population that inevitably results
from human populations providing them an easy feeding ground.
Those who own cats know
that cats love attention. They enjoy being pampered by
their owners, and will return attention and affection given the
chance.
Those who are new to owning cats may find bonding unusual at
first. The more time you spend around your cat, the closer
the two of you will become. Over the years, you will find
that the bond with your cat has grown very strong.
