Caring For Persian Cats

Persian cats are among the most popular breeds of cat.  They are well known for their gentle and sweet personalities and their long hair.  They are great companions for virtually anyone, as they are not very demanding.  Unlike some breeds Persian breeds need very little attention.

White is the color normally associated with Persian cats, although they actually come in a variety of other colors as well.  During competitions, they are divided into seven color divisions – solid, silver and gold, tabby, shaded and smoke, particolor, bicolor, and Himalayan.  Regardless of color, they are best noticed during competitions by their long and flowing coats.

Persian cats should always be kept inside the house to protect their coats.  They also need to be brushed daily as their coat can become easily matted.  You may need to bathe your Persian cat on a regular basis to help protect his coat.

Bathing works best if you get your Persian when it is young, as it will become accustomed to it.  Bathing should not be overlooked as it will keep your cat's coat looking clean and healthy.

Some breeds can maintain their coats on their own, but many Persians have trouble with this.  Their fur is long and dense, and you may need to groom them daily to ensure their coat stays healthy.

The Persian breed is gentle and sweet, getting along great with everyone,  including kids.  They have a pleasant voice that is nice to hear.  Using their voice and their eyes, they can communicate with their owners.

They are playful but don’t require a lot of attention.  They do love being admired.  Persians don’t climb and jump much at all.  They aren’t particularly destructive either.  Persian cats love to bask in the sun and show others just how beautiful they truly are.

Although many breeds can be kept indoors or outside, Persian cats should usually be kept inside.  Keeping them inside will protect their coats.  It also helps keep diseases and parasites away from your pet.

To ensure that your Persian pet stays healthy, take him to the vet on an annual basis.  With proper care, Persian cats can live as long as 20 years.  One common thing with Persians is that they may need help keeping their eyes clean.

Persians are among the easiest of cat breeds to keep.  They are relatively non-destructive and easy to care for.  They are quite beautiful and make wonderful companions.
